Wolf of the Month-Itzel Gonzalez

Itzel is a 15-year-old sophomore on the High Honor Roll. Itzel names Mrs. Sherri Ramseier (Speech), Mrs. Kristi Minor (Science), Mrs. Cindy Soehner (Math), Mr. David Wilson (Art), Mr. Daniel Weirich (Social Studies), and Mrs. Su Wright (English) as her favorite teachers. Some of Itzel’s hobbies and interests outside of school include reading, writing, drawing and painting, and dancing. Itzel states that her role model is Daniel Sontame, and states, “He has been through a lot of things that would normally make someone sink, but he is very strong.” When asked to discuss an accomplishment that she is proud of, Itzel responded, “I am very proud over how much I have improved my English, even though I got here only three years ago.” Itzel shared that a ‘Fun-Fact’ about herself is that, “Even if it doesn’t look like it, I am a person who really enjoys dancing, and I guess I’m not bad at it.” Itzel shared that her future aspirations include, “choosing a career that makes me happy.” Itzel’s advice to her fellow students is, “Follow your dreams, because if you do something you enjoy, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Mr. Johnson had the following to say, “Itzel arrived in Idalia three years ago not knowing a word of English. Three short years later, she is an A student and earns the highest praise from each of her teachers. In my decade plus in education, I rank Itzel’s story right near the top as one of the most impressive transformations I have ever witnessed. Itzel’s academic work-ethic is second to none, and paired with her high level of intelligence and drive, the results are impressive to say the least. It has been a lot of fun watching this young lady continue to grow in confidence and achievement over the past three years. Great job Itzel, and congratulations on being named Wolf of the Month!” Submitted by Myles Johnson, Superintendent
